| E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. 9/1/28. - 2 - tried the same out in your experimental department. Before going ahead with a design it may be well for you to consider as to whether in a general way you would be interested to try out the particular arrangement on which we are concentrating, that is the arrangement of two clutches at the back end of the gearbox. Although the view is not generally held, it has been suggested that what is required is easy gear changing only. If this were your view at all, it would be well that we should know it before proceeding any further. It hardly seems possible, however, that such a view will gain much favour, as the various economies that the free wheel vehicle offers, and also the greater comfort, would seem to be very well worth having. Perhaps you could think this matter over and drop me a line. Yours sincerely, [Signature] W. Simpkin WS/FSF. | ||
