E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fowler Clark Esq.,
Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.
Dear Fowler Clark,
In reply to yours of the 10th inst., I see that Mr. Preston reported on the plates and separators taken out of the U.S.A. multiple storage cell on June 17th and I am sorry if we did not pass on his remarks to you.
[Handwritten in margin: Multiple S(strikethrough)]
He says that the plates and separators are in excellent condition after six years’ service, although if they, with their considerably greater capacity, had been subjected to the charging and discharging rates of smaller capacity batteries, they have had a comparatively easy time.
With regard to the diagonal ribs on their plate, we are now experimenting with these in some new designs of plate to see if this has any benefit with regard to prevention of buckling, but it takes a long time for us to satisfy ourselves on this point.
[Handwritten in margin: XAGUTS S. 7.E.X.]
With regard to the battery on Mr. Royce's chassis S. 7.E.X., I see that there are some of our cells on this so that it will be all right for screwing the special vent into.
[Handwritten in margin: E.X.]
Re old type 60-volt porus pot H.T. battery, we would be glad to let you have one of these for 35/-. I believe the list price is about £3. 3. 0.
Yours sincerely,
G.R.N. Minchin
