ROLLS-ROYCE, LTD. INSTRUCTIONS. To: E & C Date: 3-2-28 Order No. SP{Mr Spinney} A.1. Customer's No: X 3711 Failure of Multiple Storage Cell On opening up this cell the positive plates had lost a lot of paste, the grids being fairly strong but were easily fractured. The negative plates appeared to be strong mechanically. The cell was badly sulfated, and failure was due to accumulated sediment and also to badly fitting separators, which did not come to the edge of the plates causing the paste of the negatives to swell and bridge across to the positives, thereby shorting the cell. The plates have a diagonal rib to prevent buckling, which seems to be very effective. Signed: S.P. This Sheet must be filed on completion of the work. RR 238 (150 BKS.)
