MODIFICATIONS TO RECOIL SHIELD TYPE BD{Mr Berend} GUN.

Owing to our not having been informed of a change of design of the breech ring, the recoil shield to QPL.125 fouled the latter.

On QPL.139 (original attached to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH's copy of this memo.) we show the modified shape of recoil shield to overcome this foul.

This drawing also shows other modifications mentioned to us by Ve. during a visit to this office.

(1) The top face of the shield has been modified at the point where it contacts the body of the gun in the open position. It has been made so as not to dig into the gun and at the same time that it has a certain amount of spring.

(2) The hole in the top face of the recoil shield to QPL.125 has been deleted since nobody can find the reason for its existance.

(3) Cap nuts have been deleted.

(4) We modified the scheme retaining the recoil shield handles as shown on the original scheme QPL.125. The split pins provided for this purpose were sheared off on the first gun. The hole in the insertion of the split pin from the handle can now be deleted.

(5) The washer between the bracket on the cradle and the hinge plates of the shield was left loose on QPL.125 and is now spot welded to the hinge plate.
