X.7772 E2/M16.2.29. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RE. LEFT HAND ENGINES. Confirming telephone conversation with you re. the above we strongly recommend you to use Sch.6 (Lec.2669) in preference to Sch.1. in memo. E2/M9.2.29. Sch.6. is suggested in memo. R5/M3.2.29. It demands no alteration whatever to existing SS.{S. Smith} and allows of maximum interchangeability of pieces. We do not like Sch.1. because it demands larger push rod tubes in cyl. head to accommodate push rods at two different angles. The present tubes are already touching sparking plug bosses on the one side and cutting into gas-ways on the other. We think also it unduly cramps the tappet guide dogs against the cyl. block.
