Re - B.H.P. at Siddeley-Deasy.

Thank you for your memo with reference to B.H.P. at Siddeley-Deasy. It would seem that the trouble arose through one of three causes, either steam pockets(as you suggest) preventing the necessary cooling, or the valve seats are somewhat insulated from the aluminium and therefore do not carry off the heat so quickly as direct water cooled metal, or else the valves or seats become distorted and so blow past.

I presume, however, that this is not a question of running with weak mixtures or bad distribution, such as you would notice straight away. Your own experience would suggest that it was the water circulation that was at fault.
