ORIGINAL TO DY.{F R Danby} [struck through] FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M11.8.27. Copy to - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} PHANTOM LUGGAGE GRID. X8400 X8600 [struck through] We thank you for your BY12/G3827., and from the 1st. para. we conclude that the luggage grid with the latest type forged side members will now be used instead of the tubular type, and there is no need to attempt to improve the latter. The 2nd. para. appears to refer to another job, namely, the combined luggage grid and spare wheel carrier. We understand from the Exp. Dept. that this is standing up in the arrangement shewn on N. scheme 2402., with a tube of the thickness shewn on N. sch. 2419. If we adopt as standard the arrangement shewn on N. scheme 2402. it appears to be necessary to give the luggage grid away with the spare wheel carrier, and up to the present we understand the Administration are opposed to this. R.{Sir Henry Royce} we know is in favour of this proceeding, but so far we believe London have not consented to it. We should be very much obliged if the Exp. Dept would send us the broken pieces of the arrangement on N. sch. 2419. so that we can see where the clips want strengthening. We would deal with the question of chattering between the two tubes when the above question of policy has been decided. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
