[Strikethrough]SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}[Strikethrough] FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [Strikethrough]C. to - BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}[Strikethrough] ORIGINAL [Stamp] GROUPED INSTRUMENTS. (8530) With reference to SG{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}8/M5827., and the proposed grouping of the instruments on the instrument board illustrated in the photograph, since you ask us merely whether we see any technical objection to the instruments arranged in this way, the answer is that we see none. The grouping however from the point of view of convenience is not in accordance with R's ideas, and we should hesitate very much before approving it for use on the Show cars. For one thing it appears to make a very deep instrument board, which we think would be impossible with 'B' steering. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has always preferred the switch on the R.H. side, and the position of the speedometer does not seem particularly visible. Would it not be possible to get our arrangement of instruments on the Show cars? The instruments themselves do not seem to require a 10,000 mile test, and the arrangement as a whole has already gone through such a test on R's car. In any case it would have been well tested before it was necessary to deliver to customers. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
