X.4383 - RE GOSHAWK DYNAMO. - INSPECTION & TEST. X.3604do.

We attach further revised copies of specification of inspection and test of the R.R. Goshawk dynamo. Will you kindly allow this to supersede your previous copy, which should be scrapped.

It will be remembered that a little while ago we put up the allowable output by 2 amperes. Though we have had no trouble with machines set like this on our experimental cars, it is considered from evidence received from dynamos on production that we have slightly overdone this setting on production, and are therefore now again reducing this by half the amount (1 ampere) as previously raised.

Another reason for this change is that the Peto & Radford Co. are now maintaining that our output is too large for their battery, and they wish us to reduce this by 1 1/2 amps on the peak, otherwise they fear trouble due to overcharging. As we attach a good deal of importance to Messrs. P & R's advice on the matter in view of the fact that they have undoubtedly had as much experience as any battery makers in the actual running of batteries on chassis, we think it is highly desirable to concede to their demand to this extent. We feel that they should agree to our thus meeting them 2/3 of the way, allowing the other 1/3 for our own opinion on the matter.
