Carburetter Air Silencer LOP.EM.568

The end which carries the filter element came loose in the body. This trouble is now receiving attention.

Fan LOP.EM.954

The fan was quite impossibly noisy.

Engine Gears Ex.27115 Ex.27042 Ex.919

The gears were noisy at the start but became no worse during the mileage.

No trouble was experienced. There was no hand control. This was not missed at any time.

Water Pump LOP.EM.907
'Palmetto' Gland Packing Fitted.

There were no leaks from the gland during the mileage.

Flywheel and Clutch LOP.GW.962
Standard 25/30 Borg & Beck Clutch

Oil from the rear main bearing found its way on to the clutch facings at the start of the running, resulting in jaggers and slip on engagement during the rest of the mileage.

Gearbox and Actuating Gear LOP.GW.1320

The synchromesh was good at the start but deteriorated during the running, was inoperative at the end of the mileage due to failure of the synchromesh cones.

The gears were quiet except for a slight over-run whine at low speeds until near the end of the mileage when they became noisy on drive, attributed to metal from the synchromesh cones finding its way on to the gear teeth.

False engagement of second gear from neutral was frequently made. A further attempt to engage the gear without returning into neutral, resulted in a pasty noise. This trouble has also been complained of on Phantom III. in the past, and is a characteristic of the second gear synchromesh.
