To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. BJ1/H16.10.24. E.A.C. Can you let us know, please, whether the E.A.C. is being designed to be suitable to carry balloon tyres? We feel fairly confident that balloon tyres will come into general use, say in a year or so, and we understand that other manufacturers have taken steps so to design the steering of their cars as to make it light, even when running slowly, with balloon tyres. If you and By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} have not heard whether this has been arranged, I will take the matter up direct with R.{Sir Henry Royce}, but I do not want to trouble him at the moment if this matter is already under way. Please at the same time let me know what tests are being made at W. with balloon tyres, and what conclusions have been arrived at up to the present. B.J. [Handwritten note at top: X4565] | ||
