SUB-FRAME BODIES 40/50 H.P.

HO. and myself visited Barkers this afternoon, and were able to give Barkers all the necessary help to enable them to carry on the work of the two Sub-frame Bodies which we are pleased to say are making quite rapid progress.

Confirming our telephone conversation of this afternoon, we would like the following points attended to:-

(1) We wish the Chassis 9-PK, which we are using as a carrier of these bodies, to have no oil tank on the side, as this will not be on the chassis which will eventually have this body.

(2) We would like the lubricator for the torque tube sphere on the side of the frame to look straight out instead of turning at a right angle. This is due to the use of outside valances.

(3) We would like to fit our own latest design of wheel carrier on this car - not that we are extremely pleased with it, but because it is more suitable than the ones made by the Coachbuilders, and it will speed up the job. There will be a carrier on both near and offside.

(4) We would be glad if you could take up with the spring gaiter manufacturers the question of having some gaiters for the rear springs made to lace up on the top of the spring, and having the lubricators at the bottom. This would obviate the necessity of having a door in a box of the valance over the rear spring. This feature, however, need not hold up 9-PK, which if necessary can run about without gaiters at all.

(5) There was one point I forgot to mention whilst speaking to you on the 'phone, and that is the connection with the tap on the nearside of the frame for draining the sump. As this will not be on the EAC. Chassis, we would rather like it to not be on this chassis, so that the Coachbuilders do not cater for it by holes in the valance. We suggest that it is entirely removed, if possible, and an ordinary plug used - if not, that the bearing remain in the frame side, but the tap handle be inside the frame perhaps a matter of 6". We will leave this for you to fix up.

in a fortnight's time, as the chassis 9-PK at least will be ready for mounting by then.

We would be glad to receive your comments on these details.
