To C. from DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 48830 S E C R E T. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M5.2.26. X.8830 X.8380 We have heard from Barkers to the effect that they can allocate us two bodies partly finished, and would like to receive two subframes within a fortnight. These bodies are an enclosed limousine, and an enclosed cabriolet (cabriolet de ville). We have asked Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} if he can supply two subframes in the time specified, and we presume you will deal with the financial side. We are arranging to send Barkers certain information regarding the subframe immediately, so that they can prepare the bodies for the subframes arrival. We are also taking every opportunity to indirectly emphasise that this is a subframe for the 40/50, and drawings are marked accordingly. Referring to the Beatonson all-weather on a 40/50 - 'V' series - asked for by R.{Sir Henry Royce}, we have written and suggested to CJ. that we build one of these on a subframe ostensibly for the old 40/50, at Messrs. Young & Co. Bromley, and that this body replace one of the two open cars which we had suggested for body subframe experiments. We are awaiting CJ's instructions.
