328 DY.{F R Danby} [crossed out] c. Ex. Dept. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} HFG. [crossed out] E/HDY.{William Hardy}3/HP.19.4.37. Phantom III Gearbox. We send herewith N.Sch.5119 showing modifications to the rear joint of the stay between the engine and the gearbox recently instructed by us to N.Sch. 5072. It has been found on 10,000 miles test that wear occurs with the present bronze bush and soft steel surfaces. It is now proposed that all the wearing surfaces should be hardened and the bush should be deleted. The vertical clearance should remain unaltered at a minimum of .010. No alteration is required to the front joint. E/HDY.{William Hardy} N.Sch.5119 herewith. | ||
