It has also been pointed out that the lock at present used by Derby is not suitable for American use since the key is not a standard Yale key.

The Yale lock was used by Derby on early designs and the keys for this lock can be made standard with body and tool box keys, and ignition keys for each chassis, so that only one key is needed for every car, a duplicate being kept in our own Works.

We therefore propose that if Derby are unable to fit Yale locks, they should send imported cars with blank spaces in the bonnet panels, for us to fit Yale locks.

These should be fitted on all imported cars, whereas at present a lock has been provided for on only one or two of the imported cars.

We are proceeding on the American production to fit Yale locks (to the standard Derby drawings) on all American Cars.

Yours very truly,
Rolls-Royce of America Inc.
