| X8782 To EY/NHW. from EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 3/T16.10.25. X.8782. "NEW PHANTOM(Codename for PHANTOM I)" INSTRUCTION BOOK. X8730 We have received a letter (copy attached) from Mr. Minchin of the Peto & Radford Co., with reference to the various switchbox switch positions we have adopted. We also attach copy of the answer we have sent to that letter. In arranging the Instruction Book, we perhaps have not expressed the matter in the manner which I see more clearly now was intended. We suggest that, in any further editions, we go more on these lines :- p.40. Switchbox. Under 'MBC' delete the word 'all', and say, "----------. This is the position of the switch for ordinary running." Otherwise no change. p.53. Top. We suggest we say - "Run normally with both ignitions and charge on, but for (a) Testing the magneto ignition, (b) More quickly charging up the battery when this is considered desirable, use the MC position of the charging switch; and for (a) Testing of the battery ignition, (b) Running without charging, when the battery is considered to be fully charged, use the B position. Remember that the battery ignition is the ignition, having the more desirable characteristics of the two, the magneto providing, in conjunction with the battery ignition, the element of reliability.
