X8780 X8783 RE COMPLAINT FROM MR THORNTON OF MESSRS HOOPERS THAT SIDE LAMP FILAMENTS BURN OUT. In order to try and obtain some first hand information, we wrote direct to Mr.Thornton of Messrs Hooper & Company's Works. We quoted the various numbers of the chassis which were referred to in Bs{A J. Barnes - Assistant Manager}9/KW.18.1.26. The numbers in question were apparently taken down over the 'phone, and are incorrect. The chassis of which they complain are:- 35-MC, 72-HC, 8-RC{R. Childs}, 71-KC, and their own Demonstration Car, 28-MC. We were inclined at first to think this was a peculiarity of the combination of the dynamo with P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} batteries. We find, however, that three chassis are fitted with P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} and two with Exides. In order to thoroughly investigate the complaint, it is very desirable that we should be put in touch with the owners of the chassis in question, when I propose to send along new dynamos. The output in these will have been somewhat reduced by modifying the third brush position. This should in itself overcome the trouble. The dynamos returned would then be investigated in order to see whether from some unforeseen cause the out-put of the dynamos has increased in service, as unless this has occurred, it is very difficult indeed to find any reason for the trouble referred to. If you will kindly let us have information as to where the various chassis can be dealt with, and obtain the necessary permission for us to replace the dynamos from the customers, I will arrange all that is necessary on our part to put this into force.
