X300 R.{Sir Henry Royce} Ll. Smith To Sr. from HBY. HPY.1/HP.26.4.35. c. Hsr. Ry. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hav. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} ES. SpectreCodename for Phantom III Flywheel and Clutch. Memo - RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}2/MB.8.4.35. We give below our suggestions for dealing with the points raised in the above memo:- (1) } (2) } - Do not arise if the modified shaft shown by N. Sch.4447 is used. (3) } (4) Timing marks on an increased chamfer, as shown by N. Sch.4472. (5) Use retaining rings on the bolts as for the Wraith - N.Sch.4319. (6) Modifications as N. Sch.4472. Clearance as detailed is less than on the original N. Scheme. (7) Presumably this can be dealt with by the O.P. Dept. (8) } (9) } - Would BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} incorporate the suggestions made by RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} (10) } (11) Holes for balancing can be drilled in the flywheel cover rim at the same radius as the bolt holes and of the same diameter. (12) We believe that the modifications shown by N. Sch. 4447 will overcome the difficulty with the dipping switch and the studs. The shortened operating shaft shown should allow the bottom half of the casing to be dropped away without removing the studs and the top half can be rotated until at the bottom, when it can be removed from underneath. It is still not possible to remove the top half of the casing without disturbing the bottom half. To | ||
