HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X3436 FR EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}1/F26.10.20. RE. COPPER ASBESTOS WASHER FOR THROTTLE CHAMBER JOINT. We have taken a careful power test on an engine to determine whether the 48 x 58 m/m washer specified for the above joint has any effect on power if used in the exhaust drop pipes instead of the 49 x 58 m/m washer specified. We find there is no difference in performance with either washer fitted. In view of the similarity of the two washers, and the marked disadvantage if the 49 x 58 size is used in the throttle body, will you please consider the advisability of delating the 49 x 58 washer and instructing the use of the 48 x 58 for both the exhaust pipe and throttle chamber joints?
