Dear Sirs, We beg to thank you for your letter of the 17th inst., with reference to the balanced gauge which you are running on the 40/50 h.p. car. We note that the over-night loss with this gauge appears to be satisfactory, and it is therefore reasonable to suppose that the air pumping is sufficiently vigorous. It would be interesting to know if a trial has been made with the most volatile spirit, to verify the vapour loss which was discussed recently. The reason of the lag in the gauge showing the exact reading on filling up, is the length of the capillary between the front and back tube. This is very beneficial in some directions, as it damps out any | ||
