Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} PHANTOM 111 - 3.BU.96. RE: FAILURE OF FOLLOWER ROLLER BEARINGS. I think it is evident that the cause of the failure in this case was not that the casing was too thin. I would infer that the angles of the races upon which the bearing rollers worked were inaccurate. In my opinion it shows the necessity for replacing the scheme of roller bearing with a follower roller fitted with ball bearings, a scheme for which has been detailed and which I would like to follow up with the object of obtaining these at the earliest possible moment.
