[handwritten signature] Phantom III - 3.BU. 96. Your ref. By/Mtn. 18/N. 2.12.38. ------------------------------- Two roller races were submitted from the steering of the above chassis after completing 20,000 miles. One of these was worn on half the circumference of the track. The other race was in good condition. The damaged race was sectioned through the centre of the worn area and diametrically opposite. The depth of case on the unworn section was .040". On sectioning the undamaged race the case was again found to be .040" deep at two diametrically opposite points. Considerable difficulty was experienced in hardness testing as the damaged race had been severely work hardened. We are satisfied however that the hardness on both roller races was satisfactory. Worn roller race. Unworn roller race. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} VPN/30 . . 810 H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} VPN/30 . . . 817. These figures were obtained on parts which had not been work hardened. Micro examination of the worn race shewed the structure of the case to be quite normal. H1/EJW. | ||
