BENTLEY CHASSIS. ----------------- In view of Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}2/E.23.10.33. stating that it was necessary for us to release all parts on the second 100 sets of material, for which we know there will be no alteration, we have had a Conference in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}'s Office this morning, and the following decisions have been arrived at :- (1). Crankcase and Bearings. We are to release the crankcase with the modifications to suit the use of bolts instead of studs in the centre bearing, with the other minor modifications we are making provision for the longer starter motor as agreed previously. (2). Crankshaft. The present type of crankshaft having 12 bolts and fitted with the improved balance weight system having studs with collars in all cases, and in the larger balance weights two studs per web. (3). Piston. These will have to be worked upon from hand to mouth in the Works, but we are releasing the pistons having the larger boss, thicker webs with increased radii in the foot of the web, as instructed by E's Department yesterday, but using the existing size of gudgeon pin. The heat treatment decided upon is that the piston should be quenched from the die and given 8 hours low temperature treatment at 160/170oC. The interference fit of the gudgeon pin is to be reduced in intensity, the pin being made to push in by hand. This we consider means size minus 1/10 of a thou. on the pin and size plus 1/10 of a thou. on the hole. (4). Exhaust System. With the exception of the parts which are lagged we are to release 200 sets, similar to those agreed upon for 40 sets. | ||
