To Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Y8420 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/LG17.10.27. AUSTRALIAN ACCIDENTS. We observe that at least two of the accidents recorded by Pt. can be attributed to the steering taking charge through the front wheel brakes. We do not know what the position is with regard to retrospective action in reducing the front brake leverage, but we recommend that Pt. is supplied with a number of 4" levers for the front brake equalising shaft so that he may deal with the cars which have had accidents. Apparently the unmetalled roads of Australia may cause sand etc. to penetrate the front brake drums and produce fierce front braking.
