COPY From: JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED Great King Street, BIRMINGHAM 29th March 1927 PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd. OL/FEA DERBY Dear Sirs, MAGNETOS As requested by your Mr. Royce the other day, we have pleasure in now putting before you, some of the confidential figures with regard to Magneto returns under guarantee, as promised. We regret the delay in dealing with this, but the writer has been to particular pains to ensure the reliability of the information herewith, as we appreciate that nothing but the actual facts are of any use. As an example, we are taking our standard 4 cylinder Magneto type GA4, which we make in the largest quantity, and we will deal with the defects we have dealt with free of charge since the introduction of our two year's guarantee. It is useful to add that the writer has personally interviewed the Manager responsible, and is assured that the attitude in dealing with guarantees, is that of the general policy of the Company, viz., that if there is any doubt at all, the benefit of this has gone to the customer. The total number of machines of the particular type referred to, which we have produced since introducing the Guarantee, is 40,200, and the defects total 37. There have been other returns, which together with these, come to 109, but all those which are not regarded by us as defects, come under such headings as mechanical damage (due to mishandling), and apart from these, all the other machines could have been put in thorough first-class working order by attention to the points enumerated in our instruction Booklet. | ||
