LUCAS MAGNETOS
-----------------

The Lucas Company have always claimed that the trouble experienced with their 4 Cylinder Magnetos was due to a design they originated 4-5 years ago on pressure from a certain source. When they realised they had made a mistake, the necessary steps were taken to obviate the trouble. The machine was redesigned, and Mr. Turner was called in some 3 years ago to supervise matters, and clearly advised us of this fact when he visited Derby on various occasions.

In conversation recently with Mr. Lucas and Mr. Bennett, I asked if their troubles with such re-designed 4 Cylinder Magnetos had been greatly reduced, and was assured such was the case; and attached you will find copy of a statement of their present position in the matter, which I have advised Mr. Lucas I am circulating on the understanding that we treat it as confidential.

Our returns of Watford 40/50 HP. Magnetos for the past 3 months total 38, so that we are faced with:

(a) The difference in purchase price between Lucas and Watford Magnetos, amounting to some 50/- to 60/- per Magneto.

(b) The expense and delay involved in taking down such Magnetos off Road Test Chassis.

The non-Sleeve type Magneto with which the Watford Company are experimenting should be here shortly.

ROY.{Sir Henry Royce}
