ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED, NIGHTINGALE ROAD, DERBY. TELEGRAMS: "ROYCAR," DERBY. TELEPHONES: 813 (Two Lines). DEPARTMENTAL MEMO. This column is for Name of Person addressed. Mr Barrington. Date. 15.7.12 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}20/T15712. X429 RE MAGNETO UNIVERSAL JOINT. Some time ago I reported to Mr Hadin to the effect that the rear universal joint of the two of the present magneto drive always gave the most trouble as regards wearing slack, and in nearly all cases of report even on our own Experimental cars which have considerable running this joint becomes dry and also gets full of grit. This appears due to its position, and the fact that any dirt or dust which passes through the guard has a direct passage into this universal joint. Mr Hadin also suggested a cover or split disk which could be attached to the shaft. The matter is one however which requires prompt attention, and I shall be glad if you will get same moving and let me hear from you as quickly as possible. E.P.
