HH/Mr. Whitehead. c. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} 361 BY.1/G.6.12.38. PHANTOM 111 - HYDRAULIC DAMPER. 3.BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}55 - Mileage 17,323. RE: FAILURE IN THE CENTRAL TUBE BY CRACKING COMPLETELY ALONG THE LENGTH ON EACH SIDE OF THE DIAMETER. I would like you to examine the above piece which I left in the Laboratory about a week ago to check whether :- (a). The piece had been quenched from brazing as this would obviously produce a very brittle tube. (b). Check as to whether there was likely to be a crack in the tube initially due to overdrawing of the tube. This I should think is doubtful. Would Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} please enquire into the maximum pressure in the tube. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
