X4219 On examining Goshawk 11. after the run to Chichester and back, we found that the induction pipe was cracked. It was a semi-circular crack in the radius where the hot spot joins the induction pipe. It appears as though we have got to allow for expansion at this point. In fitting up the other pipe we are allowing consider-ably more clearance in the holes. We have tried the engine since replacing the pipe, and find that the slow running is very much better and more regular than it was when the car was at West WitteringHenry Royce's home town. The consumption on the run back was 21 M.P.G. The average speed for 190 miles was 33 M.P.H. We covered 40 miles from Oxford to Daventry in one hour. The average speed of this journey is the same as we do on the 40/50 chassis on this run.
