200(B?) 446 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.2/MH.{M. Huckerby} 15th. February 1938. The Projectile Engineering Co. Ltd., Acre Street, Battersea, LONDON, S.W.8. For the attention of Mr.Bell. Dear Sirs, Before ordering 6 torque arms FB.2924 I asked you for a quotation of the cost. You said that this was impossible, but that you would only charge cost price. Your charges are as follows :- 6 torque arms in .104 material £114. 19s. 6d. 6 " " " .080 " £58. 13s. 5d. The steel inserts were supplied by us. Our Experimental Dept. were anxious to make these parts in order to save time, but there would have been a real row if anyone had dared to book over 1000 man hours to 12 torque arms. I was rather insistent that you should produce these samples so that we could test your article and you would have more knowledge of the job in order to give us a satisfactory production quotation. With Rolls-Royce Ltd. it is a large pull for the production order to go to the firm who have made the samples. We, therefore, find that manufacturers are very ready to help us with the samples and very often share the cost. | ||
