COPY URGENT. N/W. A/R/G3/G.6.4.32. RE: CHASSIS No.189-GY - FRANCKEISS. We are returning to you per Goods Train to-day along with other material, the starter motor which we removed from the above car at Portsmouth last week. Immediately it arrives, please have it examined and let us have your report. We would explain that it engaged with the flywheel but would not turn the engine. Our electrician dismantled it and found the sliding gun metal bush to be dirty and gummy. After cleaning and freeing the bush, the starter was apparently all correct but upon being re-erected it continued to behave as above. Accordingly our man removed the starter again and fitted a replacement machine which he had taken down to Portsmouth and it functioned perfectly. The whole of the installation was thereupon carefully checked over and carefully tested and everything was quite satisfactory. The defective starter was fitted by us approximately five months ago and altogether Mr.Franckeiss has had three starter motors fitted since the car was delivered. The Administration are interested in this case and a full report upon the present trouble is required with as little delay as possible. No doubt you will let us hear from you quickly. A/R.{Sir Henry Royce} COPY OF PENCIL NOTE. D/BP. Noted and we will arrange for a special investigation and report in due course. Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/WW.7.4.32. | ||
