Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}/S/R.{Sir Henry Royce} DATE 7th April, 1939 Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your letter of the 6th inst., but are rather at a loss to understand your first two paragraphs. So far as we are aware there has been no suggestion made by anyone here to substitute the standard type of expander in place of the special one designed by you. In order that you may be perfectly clear regarding this we are enclosing a copy of our parts list together with a full set of detail prints of the components to be supplied. The only modification which has been suggested is in the adjuster plungers. This was referred to in our letters of the 20th and 29th March and does not affect the brake assembly in any way. It has been found more convenient to bring the ends of the plungers to a point afterwards removing all fraze. When in working position the present length of plunger allows a gap between the ends adjacent to the adjuster cone. This is sufficient to allow the plungers to move in when fitting the drum by simply rotating the adjuster cone in an anti-clockwise direction. Previously this gap was obtained by making the plungers slightly longer than at present and then machining small flats at the ends. This will be apparent on comparing the present drawing with the one previously issued. | ||
