To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} X.4260 E3/M10.1.22. GOSHAWK 11. FRONT DUMB IRON. X.4260. With reference to your suggestion concerning the above that the attachment of the dumb iron to the frame should be lengthened about 50% to prolong the life of the frame. At this point Mr. Royce says "I have no objection to adding a little to the length of the dumb iron fixing but I should have thought it had nothing to do with the breakage and was long enough. My impression is that the breaking load is a torsional one. We have now agreed that the frame shall be of thicker material, also I do not think the frame will break in practice in the way it has done on the bumping rig". We expect to send you a modified drawing within the next few posts. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
