Referring to memo EWT.1/R.12.4.35, a meeting was held of EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}, Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, LA{L. A. Archer}, Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E/Lid{A. J. Lidsey}, and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} to discuss the position, and obtain agreement on the recommendations to be made, which are as follows:-

Brakes.

Records show that trouble has been experienced with the 4-bolt flange on the Phantom 2, and it is concluded that an increase in the number of bolts will not necessarily be an absolute cure. The present 20/25 HP. front axle has never given any trouble on our 10,000 mile tests, due to oil leaking on to the brakes

It is recommended that we make a still stronger 2-bolt cap, secured with the next size larger set screws, and carry out the special tests which were applied on the Bentley, to confirm that a tight oil joint can be made. This should not take more than a week to carry out, and the scheme can be adopted on the present cars.

It will be remembered that a stiffer cap is already on production and that it commenced on the first chassis on 'G' series three months ago. The one complained of is an 'F' series.

The still stiffer cap can be introduced at any time when supplies become available, if it is agreed to scrap the 'G' series type.

Apart from the question of keeping oil off the front brakes, there are four modifications recently standardised
