Re - Springing for Australia. I have been going into this matter at Works lately with By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}, Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, and am strongly of opinion that, no matter what springs we fit at the Works in our endeavour to suit Australian conditions, we shall never approach the ideal until we realise that whatever friction device we attach to rear axles, they must be provided with some adjustment. For this reason, I strongly advocate the fitting of Hartfords as well as Hydraulic Shock Absorbers to rear axles of all Cars intended for the Colonies. It should not be lost sight of that the range of conditions in regard to springing is infinitely greater in Australia than it is in England, because our best conditions proximate to English best conditions, whereas our worst conditions are infinitely more difficult to cater for.
