20/25 H.P. (contd)

Change Speed Lever Rattle

The remedy for this had not yet been tested, but owing to the complaints of this it was agreed to order all material for its correction.

Carburetter Troubles

The fitting of filters and the modification of the space round the needle seat is to be proceeded with, and a Depot Sheet is being circulated regarding this. This is presumably design LEC.4509 referred to in Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}/Wymis/KW 25.6.35.

Petrol Consumption

Customers still find this abnormally heavy, and a recent case was cited in Gurney Nutting finding his consumption to be about 12 m.p.g. He was scared about this but otherwise pleased with the car. It was agreed we should make a test case of this and get hold of the car and investigate it. On the other hand Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} reported the very satisfactory results that have been obtained with Sir Bannister Fletcher's car, i.e. 16 m.p.g. whereas customer complained of only 10. W. are inclined to doubt the accuracy of the measuring of the fuel, and also believe the conditions under which tests are made must include a lot of traffic work. Comparative tests Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} reports show a loss of approximately 1½ m.p.g. with the new carburetter but improved performance to offset this.

The fitting of the outside balance pipe does effect an improvement, but a carburetter with mixture control is being dealt with by Design and Experimental Departments. Also a scheme is running experimentally for a fully automatic carburetter.

Br is to be instructed to have someone specially trained as a carburetter specialist to deal with cases of complaint, in order to relieve experimental from the necessity of carrying out numerous investigations on customers's cars. As soon as this is done Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} will try and arrange for Mr.Nutting's car to be obtained for the purpose of investigation and test.

Big Bore 20/25.

A reference was made to the development of this and further reports of progress will be called for at the next Conference.
