7CA & ATW CAR PRIMING - SIMPLIFY & IMPROVE ORIGINAL! To Mr. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to Mr. "" BM. "" EPC. RE 40/50 H.P. CHASSIS. X.682 X.1889 In the priming system there is a cock on the dash and a cock on the induction pipe, connected by universally jointed shaft; this latter is kept from rattling by a spring plunger. Now the cock on the induction pipe has also a spring to keep its plug in position. This latter is entirely useless, and in fact does harm in causing the induction pipe cock to get too tight. I suggest that we cut off the end of the plug, and save the pieces (consisting of a spring and washer and split pin) for some other part of the car, we reduce the pressure arising from the plug in the universally jointed shaft. This will make the whole slightly simpler, and considerably easier to work. What caused me to look into this was that in the case of 7 CA the priming cock was much too tight to operate with safety. On lubricating both the cocks with oil, I noticed the above cause, and the very simple remedy. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
