X.4617 - RE BATTERIES FOR 40/50 & E.A.C.

The dimensions of batteries for the present 40/50 car are, as I daresay you know, absolutely limited to enable these to be placed in a box in the rear of frame, in accordance with item (8) of our specification of 40/50, which we repeat as follows :-

" (8) OVERALL DIMENSIONS OF BATTERY.

The overall dimensions of the battery are "limited to:-
A length of 20.125"
A width of 6.250"
A height of 10.000"

The available inside dimensions of the battery box are :-
Length 20.250"
Width 6.275"
Height 10.150"

"the difference being allowed for packing and wedging."

As the question of a larger battery for the 40/50 is finally disposed of, we look upon these dimensions as being fixed for some time. There will be quite a number of batteries required as replacement batteries on cars which are already in customer's hands during the life of these cars. We are therefore proposing that batteries made up by the Peto & Radford Co. shall also be in accordance with these dimensions. Such batteries, however, they cannot arrange with their standards as it is necessary for them to
