To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/MJ.29.7.35. Re. H.C. Martineau B.160-DG. Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}9/E.9.7.35. It is recognised that at high altitudes the petrol supply to the carburetters is very difficult. Work at present is being carried out on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III car which failed in a similar manner. We know we have not much margin on the Bentley as during the recent heat wave in Paris on a number of Bentley cars the petrol system has failed. The suggestion of fitting a pressure feed would introduce a number of complications and we believe it is possible to make the car satisfactory without these complications by other means. We are fixing up on a rig a petrol pump operating under altitude conditions. We consider at the moment the best reply to Mr. Martineau is to say that his complaint is being investigated and that we will let him have a report in three to four weeks time.
