S. Smith & Sons (M.A.) Ltd. Telephone: Gladstone 3333 Telegraphic Address: Speedofac, Phone, London. Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. Handwritten note: Glee 6010 24th January, 1941 W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Robotham, Many thanks for yours of the 21st January, reference Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/ML, further concerning Heaters, from which I am pleased to note that your only criticism of the sample is noise which appears to vary with different installations. When you have completed the data referred to I shall be delighted to arrange to investigate this matter with our expert at your convenience. I am sorry that I omitted to reply to the query raised in your last letter in connection with the underseat heater. Do you remember that we supplied one of these when Mr.Steadman was in your employ. Doubtless you have the record of the tests which were conducted at that time. Regarding our opinion of this line, it is necessarily more costly because of the increased piping and additional blower, if the heater is to function satisfactorily as a defroster and demister. Our recommendation is to fit a powerful blower situate in the most convenient spot to suit your chassis and coach arrangements with the necessary ducts for heating, demisting and defrosting, somewhat on the lines of a ship's cabin layout. We have tested an American under the seat design but due to its size do not think it worth while pursuing the matter with your good folk. Awaiting your further news and thanking you in anticipation. Sincerely yours, Charles W. Nichols | ||
