X.53 With reference to gauze for petrol strainers, my impression at the moment is that the recent trouble with gauze is probably due to the more general use of benzol, and it is probably due to the sulphur that the benzol contains. If we could prove this it would help us to find out what to do with the fine gauze for the filters. One impression we have is that the benzol attacks the copper worse than it does brass, but this would not appear very reasonable. Mr. Hall and Mr. Clark might study this together. | ||
