804 COPY FOR FILES. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} 8.7.38. Replying to Mr.Robert's letter of the 6th. inst., it is obvious by his remarks and general attitude that he is unaware of the condition in which this body was received at Derby. Much time has already been spent on rectifying faults to bring it up to the standard in which Mr.Roberts tried it on July 6th. In addition to the work already carried out, the closing of the doors is still unsatisfactory, added to this we get a constant stream of cold air entering into the body from the front door shuts. It will also be necessary to re-bed the windscreen to overcome water leaks. The cause of windscreen "dither" previously discussed we attribute to weakness of the screen pillars. The body bottom sides have already been adversely criticised by ourselves, it now remains to be seen how they stand up to test. We enumerate below the items which have already received attention at Derby, and have been put right as far as is possible. (1) Doors:- The best part of a week was spent by a Park Ward's man in trying to make the doors close correctly. (2) The front windows have required refixing to enable them to close correctly, these will never be much good however, due to the lack of support on the one side, and they still leak water at the front corners. (3) The swivelling ventilators have been dismantled and an attempt made to take slackness out of controls, they are badly finished and of inferior design. (4) Several broken screws were found in the windscreen frame; these have been replaced. Continued. | ||
