With reference to the trouble of the oil drain holes both from the inner hub and from the toggle shaft bearings choking up with mud on the 10,000 mile test, it appears to us from the report and sketch attached to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/LG25129 that you are using the original EAC. 7. construction on these brake shafts, in which the location is at both ends instead of at one end only as was arranged on the later scheme for EAC 14. shewn on your drawing G.76350. It was R's wish that we should convert EAC. 7. and SS.{S. Smith} to the scheme of G.76350.

It would be possible to do what GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} suggests on the EAC. 7. scheme though we doubt whether it would be a complete solution, but it is not possible on the G.76350 scheme. We also think that a better proposal is to cover the ends of the pipe with a shield, so giving a wide aperture which would we believe be very difficult to entirely block up with mud.

We have shewn what we suggest on N. sch. 2815. herewith.

The bearing brackets are altered, and we have also brought the main oil-drawin from the inner hub into line with the latest instructions.

We are sending you a scheme in a short while dealing with the other end of these shafts.
