Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/TMW. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} (Chateauroux). 672 also 600a Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les6/R.4.8.37. 26.G.VI. We are despatching to Paris to-day by air a complete front engine mounting and two pairs of front coil springs for the front suspension, together with .075" packing washers for the springs and withdrawal tackle. Wraith buffer clearances should be 1.500" front 3.375" in the fully laden position. For our cars we generally take the fully laden position to be with 4 passengers. It is unlikely that the springs have collapsed as their stress is much lower than that of P.III, but we realise the poundage is too weak. Unfortunately, we find it is impossible to get more than a .075" packing washer under the spring, as the outer spring then becomes solid on full bump. The off side of all our Wraiths have been low, due to extra weight of this side of the car. I suggest that you fit a new pair of springs with an .075" packing to the off side of the car, and return the present springs to us so that we can check their poundage. We are now having some new springs made which will take up to .250" packing. A .250" packing will raise the car .750". I am enclosing a print of N. Sch.4855 which may be useful to you. In the same parcel a front hub spanner is being despatched. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} | ||
