Dear Mr Harvey Bailey, Valve Slack Adjuster. I have been having a little correspondence with Detroit on the above subject, and I am enclosing confidentially extract from a letter of the 9th.January last from Mr.Almen, who is the inventor of the mechanism covered by our Patent under which you are licensed. I enclose also photostat. copies of each of the two drawings sent me by Mr Almen. In our opinion here, this construction comes under the existing Almen patent referred to above but contains patentable features over and above what is disclosed by that patent, and that is why I am sending you this information confidentially because we may very possibly seek to obtain a further patent in connection therewith if I find that there has been nothing equivalent to publication in the United States. As I have stated above, we regard this an as improvement on the existing patent, so that you would be entitled to use it if you wished to do so. It looks like rather a good scheme to me, but I have little practical experience with this kind of device, so I should very much value your opinion as to whether it is a good scheme or not.
