To EWT. for R.R. Inc. X.3895 1920 Hsl/LG25.10.20. RECEIVED X.3895 RE TYRES. With reference to Mr. Olley's memo. ref. OY5/G6.10.20 with letter attached from the Firestone Rubber Company. The rims on which the Firestone tyres are tight to get on and off are standard Goodyear rims. It cannot be a question of the rims because on the same rims we have fitted Goodyear, Goodrich, Kelly-Springfield, U.S. Royal Cord and Firestone and as I personally have handled the tyres on these rims, I can say definitely that the Firestone tyres are very tight to get on and off the rim, whilst other makes of tyres on the same rim fell on and off. This proves definitely that there are variations in the diameters of the tyres. We are quite prepared to accept that the Firestone tyres we have been running may have been rather smaller in diameter than their standard. What we were rather interested to know was, whether they made them tight for any special reason. We think the most convincing way of proving that the standard Firestone tyres are easy to get on and off the rims, is for the Firestone people to demonstrate this fact to you at Springfield with one of their standard tyres.
