X.1623 X.3454. RE MOTORING SWITCH FOR AMERICAN CHASSIS ENGINE STARTER. We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1170 shewing a resistance which it is proposed to use in series with the starter motor for turning the latter over when engaging the starter pinion with the gear teeth cut on the edge of the fly-wheel. Mr. Royce wishes to use one of the steel alloys, such as, Beacon, Kruppin, or Rheostene, because he thinks this resistance will get very hot as it has to dissipate a large number of watts, and the material of the resistance should remain stiff therefore, at a high temperature. Will you please arrange to have a model made of LeC.1170 and sent to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town for test, at the earliest possible moment. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
