RE. EAGLE(Aero Engine) XVI. +4114

With reference to the tests on Eagle(Aero Engine) Plain Bearings we have now produced failures on both pressure oil fed and gravity oil fed bearings. In the case of the gravity fed bearings we propose to abandon any further tests on these as results prove that at high speed the oil feed is insufficient.

With regard to the pressure fed bearing. The bearing which has failed was reported in our first report (Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rn {Mr Robinson} /LG10.11.25) to have run 41 hrs. This bearing has run a further 16 hrs. making a total of 57 hrs. running and has now failed under load of 1500 lbs. at 3,700 r.p.m.

This was a floating bearing with .0004 clearance between shaft and bearing and .0009 clearance between outer dia. and trunnion.
