| contd :- -2- It will be observed on the last test that speed of motor fluctuated from 3700 to 3900 r.p.m. GRAVITY FED BEARING. With reference to the gravity fed bearing, we have failed to get any results under load at high speed, so that in order to carry on and complete the tests on pressure fed bearings load was reduced for the high revs. to 54 lbs. This was a floating bearing having .0017 clearance between outside diameter and trunnion and .0004 clearance between shaft and bearing. | R.P.M. | Load lbs. | Time run, hrs.mins. | Temperature. | Gravity oil feed 12" head. | |----------------|-----------|---------------------|-------------------|-----------------------------| | 2220 | 297 | 30 | 73°C | | | 2220 | 1018 | 5 30 | 78°C | | | 2220 | 1502 | 4 20 | 88°C | | | 3300 | 1502 | 7 | 81°C | | | 3590 | 1018 | 10 | 94°C to 110°C | | | 3700 to 3900 | 54 | 2 25 | | | Tests so far have been carried out with whitemetalled bearings having steel cores. The test tackle is now working satisfactorily so that repeat tests should be run off quickly. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
