FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to SC. Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} P. 2. AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTING VALVE TAPPETS. We send herewith LeC. 2808. shewing the above. We think that when it comes to a multi-cylinder engine of the pushrod overhead valve type it will be necessary to have some such scheme as this, especially where aluminium cylinder blocks are employed in addition to aluminium heads. We have therefore applied such a scheme to the P. 2. engine to get an experimental trial well in advance. At the same time the P. 2. engine has some need of such a device in view of a certain amount of tappet noise experienced when warming up, due to the cylinder temperature overtaking the temperature of the valve gear. Various notes are given on the drawing setting out the features of the scheme, method of obtaining oil, etc. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
